Monthly Stableford Royal Lakeside |
December 13th
Arriving at Royal Lakeside it was good to see a whole bunch of sparrows gathered in their new livery (thanks to Frank) and splendid they looked too. David and Steve made short work of the sign in and suddenly we were away on time (shhh don’t let the guys from Japan know). It really was the most splendid day to play golf with a cool early morning temperature which was soon joined by a slight breeze to make sure we were all comfortable during our first 18 holes of the new golfing season. For those of us that come from the UK I can safely say that this would have been THE day of the year to play golf and in doing so I think we all also know that we are blessed with wonderful weather here in our adopted home – long may it last. I think most of you now know both Steve and Jim quite well by and you will know that we had a round full of fun and a good deal of well intentioned banter along with the odd good golf shot. I just hope everyone else had as much fun on this most glorious of days to play golf. After an extremely swift round (eat your heart out Bruce) we were shaking hands, signing cards and heading for the showers. Once back in the restaurant we watched Jimmy write up the scores and there we were ready to announce the winners of our very first stableford event at Royal Lakeside. However, before doing so it is always good to welcome our guest and those that we have not see for a while. A Londoners welcome to Kevin Lewis, Andrew Byrne, and Hakan Hedlund and we hope to see you all again very soon. It was also good to see Rob Lindrea, Dennis Richards, Kelvin Thompson, Pete Gale, Andy Flynn and Karen Holloway. The Captain’s pick usually throws up some fun events on the day but today was a special day for two of our members. Jennie and Ray Harries had celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary during the week and were given the spoon just as a memento – incidentally, they could both have killed someone and got off with lighter sentences!! Technical prizes were awarded to NP # 3 May Morton On a day when the scoring was not too high the flight honours were taken by: Flight C May Morton 28 points (the newly crowned Wander CC) My thanks go to you all for your kind donations that go towards helping the serving staff at Royal Lakeside having a good Christmas, believe me they deserve it putting up with us lot each month!! I hope to see you all at the Londoners Brew Pub on Thursday 18th December when will celebrate Christmas in the traditional way with an excellent carvery and of course drinks at two for one prices. On this occasion I will also look forward to feting those that have played well throughout the season and are deserving of 12 months bragging rights plus being added to our honours boards. Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year - May you hit it straight and true in 2009.. Barry Scaife
