Captain's Corner November 12th |
Dear Londoner Golf Club Members,
Believe it or not we are nearly at the end of another golfing season and I hope everyone has enjoyed their golf with the club this year. Hopefully you can all take away some memories that will form the basis of a decent reminisce with good golfing friends at some point in the future. (Captain note - for reminisce read tall stories!!) It also means that the Club Championships are not far away and if you have not yet entered you need to drop Steve Booth a line very quickly as numbers are growing and available hotel rooms are declining. After the Saturday round of the CC don’t forget that David and Lek Williamson will be opening their beautiful home for the last time (for a while) for the Party of the year. Also, if you can remember to bring along a bottle of your favourite tipple to get proceedings “flowing” I know it will be well received. Drawing to the end of the season, I for one am already looking forward to our annual get together at the Londoner Golf Club’s spiritual home for the Christmas Bash (December 18th) which pretty much finalises our season. Those that played well will be entered on the roll of honour boards so it’s heads down on November 22nd & 23rd – Can Vincent steal the show again? As 2009 looms large on the horizon it might be useful to give a timely reminder that certain drivers which were banned by the R&A as at 1st January 2008 will also not be welcome in Londoner’s golf bags after January 1st 2009. The committee have stated that they will not police this matter so it is down to each golfer’s sense of honour to make sure their clubs conform – and what better time to do so as Father Christmas may be kind and generous?? Lastly but not least, a recent accident where a caddie was hit with a golf ball sent the committee (well me!!) scurrying to see if we could make sure that the club was covered for such an incident – let’s face it my occupation does lend itself to such enquiries – no comments please about how being on the golf course all day would be beneficial here!!!. Before going on let me assure you all the matter has been dealt with in a sympathetic manner and the caddie will not lose out financially after taking time off work. The reality is that insurance cover is not available at club level but must be taken out by the individual. Suffice it to say that my application has already been submitted and as of 1st November I can score a hole in 1 and be covered to buy you lot a Pepsi (again no comments on my success or otherwise on par 3’s!!) or heaven forbid, knock a chunk out of someone’s property or even worse cause injury to a third party. You may be surprised to know that this can be done for a little as Baht 1,600 per annum – if you need details let a committee member know. I look forward to playing with you all at some point in the not too distant future Best regards Barry Scaife |
